A Guide to Airports in West Virginia

For a state that's small enough to fit inside California nearly six times, West Virginia has many airports that make flying into the Mountain State a breeze. Not only is this so-called wild and wonderful region home to the picturesque Appalachians and Seneca Rocks, it's also a central connection point for bustling metropolises such as Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte.

Most people will start their journey from the Yeager Airport in Charleston because of its proximity to the capital city and the inevitably cheaper flight prices. Others may choose a more off-the-beaten-path point of entry, especially if visiting the university or the many attractions dotted along the mountains. Just keep in mind that none of these airports offer public transportation options so you'll need to rely on a rental car, taxi, or ride-hailing service.

West Virginia's biggest airport is, of course, the one nearest to its capital. Yeager Airport is located minutes from downtown Charleston and is serviced by major airlines like Delta, American, United, Spirit, and a number of international carriers. Because it's the busiest, it's generally the cheapest, too. That said, there are no options to take public transportation to or from the airport.
